Port Colborne’s only two public beaches, Nickel Beach and Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach, officially open for beach season Fri., May 20, 2022, for Victoria Day weekend. Beachgoers are encouraged to begin planning for beach season by making sure they have their Port Colborne resident PORTicipate Pass, reserve their daily parking pass, or new for 2022, purchase their Niagara resident weekday season pass.
Here’s what you need to know for each beach:
- Nickel Beach will be open to both residents and non-residents
- Residents have free access, no-reservation required with their PORTicipate Pass. To register for a PORTicpate Pass, or to request a replacement if a previously issued pass has been misplaced visit www.portcolborne.ca/porticipatepass or call 905-835-2900.
- New for 2022, Niagara residents can purchase a weekday parking season pass for $100. Only 100 passes are available. To purchase, visit our webpage.
- A limit of 200 vehicles for non-Port Colborne residents will be permitted to access the beach daily. Beachfront parking passes need to be purchased in advance by visiting our webpage.
- Beachfront parking at Nickel Beach will be available from May 20 to Sept. 5, Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and statutory holidays, weather permitting.
- All non-beachfront parking options and walk-on access for non-Port Colborne residents are prohibited at Nickel Beach.
- The new SplashTown Niagara inflatable waterpark at Nickel Beach operates independently of the City of Port Colborne. Opening Sat., June 18, 2022, beachfront parking daily passes are still required in addition to a SplashTown Niagara splash pass to access the water park. Port Colborne residents with a PORTicipate Pass are also required to purchase a SplashTown Niagara splash pass to access the water park. - Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach will be open to both residents and non-residents.
- Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach will be open daily, including statutory holidays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Port Colborne residents will be granted access to the parking lot with their free PORTicipate Pass.
- Non-Port Colborne residents renting properties near Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach will be able to visit the beach for free by means of walk-on access. A daily parking lot pass will be required if accessing by vehicle and using the dedicated parking lot.
- Daily parking lot passes, per carload, for non-Port Colborne residents can be purchased in advance by visiting our webpage.

Also new for 2022, the Port Colborne resident PORTicipate Pass is for more than just beaches. Residents will be able to use their PORTiicpate Pass to access free skates at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre, try the YMCA for one week for free, and receive resident perks during Canal Days weekend, July 29 – Aug. 1, 2022.
