It was a fully booked and bustling first day as Niagara Region Public Health kicked off vaccination clinics at MacBain Community Centre. The first three days at MacBain Community Centre in Niagara Falls are completely booked, and Niagara Region Public Health will deliver 1,776 doses of COVID-19 vaccine by the end of Saturday.
“We at Public Health are thrilled to have launched large scale COVID-19 vaccinations today. In collaboration with Niagara Health, at the end of today, we should have approximately 46% of Niagara’s 80+ population vaccinated, and the equivalent of another 39% booked for an appointment in the coming weeks,” said Dr. Mustafa Hirji, acting medical officer of health, Niagara Region Public Health. “We encourage anyone 80 years of age or older not yet registered or vaccinated, to book their appointment as soon as possible.”
Appointments are still available for clinics across Niagara including in Niagara Falls, Port Colborne, and St. Catharines/Thorold.
Progress
- So far, 10,849 people have booked appointments at Niagara clinics through the provincial COVID-19 vaccination portal
- To date, Niagara Region Public Health has administered a total 13,808 doses of vaccine
- Combined, Niagara Region Public Health and Niagara Health have administered more than 44,623 of doses of COVID-19 vaccine
Booking an appointment
Appointments at Niagara Region Public Health COVID-19 vaccinations clinics during March and the first half of April are available for booking. Niagara residents who will be turning 80 or older in 2021 (born in 1941 or earlier) and wish to make an appointment - or an individual trusted to make an appointment on their behalf – can book an appointment either online at Ontario.ca/bookvaccine or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Information Line number at 1-888-999-6488. Residents can book an appointment at any clinic across Niagara, and can bring an essential caregiver with them to their appointment.
When choosing an appointment date, it’s important to remember that residents should wait 14 days after receiving any other vaccine before receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
To book an appointment, individuals will need to have a green photo health (OHIP) card, as both numbers on the front and back of the card are required. Expired cards will be accepted. Individuals who still have a red and white health card, or who require assistance with booking, can call the Provincial Vaccine Information Line number at 1-888-999-6488.
Niagara Region Public Health asks for everyone’s continued patience, as wait times are likely to continue for the provincial registration portal, both online and by phone.
Once an appointment is booked
On the day of their appointment residents will need
- The booking confirmation number or QR code from the provincial booking portal. Consider printing out this page or saving a screen shot to a mobile device to save having to write down the number.
- Their health card
- To wear a loose fitting top or t-shirt
- A mask
Please arrive no more than five minutes prior to their appointment time. If residents arrive early, and by car, Public Health asks that they wait in their car until five minutes prior to their appointment time.
Transit
Niagara transit operators are pleased to be providing free transit fare to residents to and from their COVID-19 vaccination appointments. To receive the free fare, riders are required to show the driver a vaccination appointment confirmation (e-mail or other format) to board and proof of vaccination for the return trip. This process applies for appointments for both the first and second dose. Rides can be to/from one of the 11 vaccination sites operated by Niagara Region, as well as the clinic operated by Niagara Health at Seymour-Hannah, or any site for COVID-19 vaccinations accessible by public transit.
