The City of Port Colborne in collaboration with Bob Robinson & Son Construction will be conducting sanitary maintenance as per the highlighted areas in the attached map, to the east of Cement Road, south of Killaly Street West and to the east of the Welland Canal. This proactive program includes flushing and CCTV inspection of main sewer lines aimed at ensuring the continued efficiency of our sewage systems.
Schedule:
Commencing on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, the maintenance work is expected to be on going until completion. The designated working hours are between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Scope of Work:
The maintenance involves the cleaning of the sanitary sewer main, from maintenance hole to maintenance hole, within the public right-of-way. This process typically takes 30-45 minutes between chambers, which will be facilitated by a Vactor truck. Please note that the Vactor truck may produce noise during the flushing and vacuuming.
Impact on Residents:
- There should be minimal disturbances, however the cleaning process may cause gurgling or bubbling in the water traps of toilets, sinks or floor drains.
- Homes with insufficient venting may experience water being drawn out into the service, resulting in potential odours of sewage.
- After the flushing is completed in front of your residence, restore water in the traps by running cold water into them.
Precautionary Measures:
- It is advised to keep toilet seats down during the work to minimize water splashing.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this maintenance period. Your patience ensures the continued efficiency of our community’s infrastructure.
