The City of Port Colborne is welcoming two new family doctors to the community: Dr. Jason Van Soelen and Dr. Raven Mancini.
Announced at the July 12, 2022, council meeting by Jill Croteau, physician recruitment and retention coordinator with Niagara Region Public Health, Dr. Van Soelen and Dr. Mancini will be joining Dr. Jeff Remington and Dr. Joe Fraelic at Niagara South Medical this fall.
Originally from Dunnville, Dr. Van Soelen studied Health Sciences at Brock University before completing his medical degree at Saba University School of Medicine. Following this, Dr. Van Soelen completed a three-year family medicine residency in Ohio.
“I could not be happier to be coming back to southern Niagara,” said Dr. Van Soelen. “It is a full circle moment for myself as it seems like yesterday I was in high school and volunteering in Dunnville Emergency with Dr. Remington. I look forward to serving the City of Port Colborne for many years to come.”
Born in Hamilton, Dr. Mancini is a graduate of McMaster University and completed her medical training in the Niagara Region. Dr. Mancini is a first-generation post-secondary student, as well as a member of Six Nations, and is very passionate about advocacy for marginalized populations.
“This is a great new opportunity, and I am very excited to be working in Port Colborne as a family doctor,” said Dr. Mancini.
“It’s wonderful to see medical learners staying and returning to Niagara to start practices after graduation,” commented Jill Croteau. “South Niagara has so much to offer as a community to live, work, and play. Having primary healthcare options is significant.”
“We look forward to welcoming both doctors to Port Colborne to serve our community.” said Mayor Bill Steele. “Our physician recruitment initiative is growing and is important for the health and future of our community. On behalf of council and the residents of Port Colborne, I would also like to recognize and thank Jill Croteau and Dr. Remington, for their continued support in recruitment, this has been a vital part of attracting physicians to South Niagara.”
