The Economic Development and Tourism Services (EDTS) division is collaborating with Outdoor Entertainment Media on filming two episodes of Fish TV in Port Colborne. The initiative is a partnership between the City of Port Colborne, Niagara’s South Coast, and the Regional Municipality of Niagara.
Currently in its 23rd season, North America’s premier fishing destination show will highlight the world- class fishing for which Port Colborne is known by visitors and residents. The show’s hosts, Jeff Chisholm and Ron James, hauled their gear to south Niagara on Aug. 22 and spent the next three days on Lake Erie catching walleye and small mouth bass. They also spent time onshore exploring Port Colborne’s Sugarloaf Marina, Historic West Street and downtown core, the Historical & Marine Museum, farmers’ market, Nickel Beach, and anything local that will interest their viewing audience.
“The collaboration with Fish TV is about more than just reeling in the trophy fish. It also shows off what there is to experience in Port Colborne before and after you’ve gone fishing,” said Mayor Bill Steele. “We want to keep Port Colborne top-of-mind for the fishing public but at the same time let them know that their families and loved ones will really enjoy visiting here, too.”
Port Colborne’s popularity among anglers hit its peak in 2013 when the city won the title of “Ultimate Fishing Town” from the World Fishing Network (WFN). A decade later Port Colborne still draws hundreds of boats to its marina and launch ramp every year for prime fishing adventures on Lake Erie. The city is also a host of choice for annual fishing events including the Budweiser CanAm Walleye Challenge and the Big Bass Champion. Organizers looking to bring a derby or tournament to Port Colborne may contact EDTS division staff to learn more about an available grant program that supports fishing events with economic value.
The first of Port Colborne’s two 30-minute episodes will make its premier in December, and the second will be released during the 2023 season of Fish TV. The show airs in North America
on the Global Television Network, OLN, Cottage Life, Totally Entertaining, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network, and Wild TV Network.
