The City of Port Colborne is seeking resident input on the redevelopment of Lockview Park as part of the implementation of the 2020-2030 Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
Located between John Street and Crescent Street, Lockview Park currently consists of a soccer field, open space, and public washrooms. City Council recognizes the opportunity to repurpose the park by adding various amenities, including playground equipment, and have asked staff to create a public engagement plan and redevelopment strategy for the park.
“Revamping Lockview Park is a multi-phase, multi-year project and we want to make sure we get it right,” said Mayor Bill Steele. “The City takes pride in creating beautiful outdoor spaces for residents to enjoy. We want to make sure we engage with the neighbourhood to understand what their expectations are. They will ultimately be the primary users of the park and their opinion is important to us.”
Residents are encouraged to complete a short online survey which asks questions regarding what type of amenities they would like to see at the park, what modes of transportation they use to access the park, and how often they plan to visit the park. City staff will incorporate this feedback in two virtual open houses held Wednesday, June 2 at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, August 11 at 6:30 p.m. The goal of the virtual open houses is to allow staff to give a brief presentation and participants to ask questions.
“Lockview Park is currently a blank canvas with so much potential,” said CAO, Scott Luey. “Before we begin executing this park renewal plan, it’s important to make sure we are headed in the right direction. That’s why we’re asking residents for their input. This feedback will ultimately help shape the future development of this community park.”
Individuals interested in joining the virtual open house are asked to email lockviewpark@portcolborne.ca for more information. Those who wish to observe without speaking at the public open house can join the livestream on the City’s YouTube channel. More information regarding the Lockview Park redevelopment can be found on the City’s website.
