A savings pass is encouraging shoppers to visit local businesses in Port Colborne during the holiday season.

In collaboration with the Downtown and Main Street Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), the City of Port Colborne is inviting shoppers to choose local and save money with the Perks of Port Colborne Digital Savings Pass.

The mobile-exclusive pass is free for both customers and businesses and aims to make it easy for gift-givers to find the perfect present for everyone on their list. Many businesses have sweetened the deal by offering special discounts and promotions.

The holiday edition of the Perks of Port Colborne Digital Savings Pass launched Wednesday, Nov. 13 and continues through to Tuesday, Dec. 24. Residents and visitors can sign up for the pass by heading to www.downtownportcolborne.ca/holidayperks, while businesses interested in listing a perk can contact economicdevelopment@portcolborne.ca.

Olga Loeffen, Port Colborne’s Business Community and Events Ambassador, says using the pass is simple.

“All you need to do is go online to sign up for the pass, and then you can explore the many deals being offered by our participating businesses,” she says. “While redemptions must be made in person, access to the pass doesn’t require an app. You can instead save the link to your favourites or your phone’s home screen for quick access, and when you’re ready to pay, simply pull up the deal or discount and show it to the person at checkout.”

Having teamed up with the Downtown Port Colborne BIA at the start of the summer to introduce a previous version of the pass to visitors from cruise ships, Greg Higginbotham, Port Colborne’s Tourism and Strategic Projects Co-ordinator, says the holiday version of the pass offers a great opportunity to attract more customers to the city’s small businesses.

“As you’re out and about this season spreading the festive cheer, taking in the holiday lights, and picking up presents for your family and friends, remember to support local,” he says.
