An evening of the blues will mark the sendoff to summer, as Port Colborne residents and visitors enjoy the final outdoor concert of 2024 while continuing to help those in need.
Taking place Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. from the H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park bandshell, Blues Etc., with special guest and JUNO nominee Spencer Mackenzie, will take the stage for the final instalment of the 2024 Community Concert Series presented by Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada
As with all Community Concert Series performances, admission is free, and those who attend are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation in support of Port Cares. So far this year, concertgoers have donated more than 1,500 lbs of food to the food bank.
Port Colborne CAO Scott Luey said the donations are representative of the way those in the city take care of one another.
“It’s so wonderful to see people giving back while enjoying time together during these concerts,” he said. “Port Colborne has always been a place where we help one another, and the donated food from these events is just one more example of that.”
On top of listening to the blues and donating food to Port Cares, staff and volunteers who helped with the 46th annual Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival, presented by GIO Rail will also be recognized during the evening and the Port Colborne Downtown Cruisers Association will be bringing their classic cars and hot rods to the show.
Port Colborne Mayor William Steele said he looks forward to seeing everyone at the concert.
“With classic cars on display, the recognition of our wonderful volunteers, and the music of Blues Etc., it’s the perfect way to say goodbye to summer,” he said.
