Port Colborne Mayor and staff discuss priority projects with provincial officials at the Ontario Good Roads Association conference
Earlier this week, Mayor Bill Steele, was joined by senior leadership from the City of Port Colborne in Toronto at the Ontario Good Roads Association conference to discuss priority projects with key provincial officials.
The 2023 Ontario Goods Roads Association conference was held from April 16 to 19 at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. Port Colborne’s delegation at the conference included:
- Mayor Bill Steele
- Scott Luey, Chief Administrative Officer
- Steve Shypowskyj, Director of Public Works
- Gary Long, Manager of Strategic Initiatives
City officials attended several meetings with provincial officials to discuss priority projects such as housing affordability, growth, and development; wharf rehabilitation and Ontario Marine Strategy; serviced industrial land; cruise ship initiative; waterfront redevelopment; water/wastewater infrastructure, inflow and infiltration; investment attraction and business expansion, and more.

- Andrew Dowie, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Trade, and Job Creation
- Hardeep Singh Grewal, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation
- Angela Litrentra, Senior Policy Advisor, Ministry of Transportation
- Sam Oosterhoff, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Red Tape Reduction
- Amarjot Sandhu, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure
- Jim Millen, Nicole Simone, Eric Chauhan, Invest Ontario
- Jae Truesdell, Director of Housing and Municipal Affairs, Office of the Premier
“Our meetings this week provided us with an excellent opportunity to raise Port Colborne’s profile, to discuss issues and priority projects, explore potential partnerships with the province, and expand our network of key contacts in various ministries,” said City of Port Colborne Mayor, Bill Steele. “We look forward to continuing this productive dialogue with provincial decision-makers and staff.”
The Ontario Goods Roads Association conference showcases innovative road and infrastructure solutions and ideas from Canada and around the world. Over 100 delegates and professionals were registered for the conference and were invited to attend speeches by the provincial party leaders and ministers, sessions and presentations, an exhibitor hall, and various networking events.
“A key area of focus for our leadership team has been implementing an active government relations and advocacy strategy to support Council’s identified priorities,” said Scott Luey, Chief Administrative Officer at the City of Port Colborne. “We accomplished a lot this week in promoting important projects and outlining specific requests we have for the province.”
