Niagara Region Public Health is pleased to be in Port Colborne today for a mass vaccination clinic.

It’s important to note that Niagara Region Public Health COVID-19 vaccination clinics will continue to be open during the provincewide shutdown.

This morning Niagara saw many new appointments booked as the provincial booking portal opened up to Niagara residents who are turning 60 or older in 2021 (born in 1961 or earlier). As a result of this strong turnout, all Niagara area clinics are now fully booked. Public Health hopes to add more clinics in the coming days.

There are a number of pharmacies in Niagara currently vaccinating residents 55 years of age and older. Visit the Province of Ontario vaccination locations webpage for a list of pharmacies in Niagara and information on how to book an appointment.

Public health measures post-COVID-19 vaccination

The vaccine is an additional way to protect yourself against COVID-19. While experts learn more about the protection that COVID-19 vaccines provide under real-life conditions, it will be important for everyone to continue practicing public health measures to help stop the spread of COVID-19. After either dose of the COVID-19 vaccine you should:

  • Continue wearing a mask, washing hands often, staying at least 2 metres from others, avoiding contact with others outside your household, avoiding non-essential travel, and self-isolating when sick
  • Wait at least 28 days after you receive the COVID-19 vaccine to get any other vaccines
  • Health care and other staff must still wear personal protective equipment when working

COVID-19 vaccination along with public health measures will offer the best protection from the spread of COVID-19.

Progress

  • To date, 92,829 total doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to Niagara residents
  • 89% of our 80+ population is now vaccinated, 72% of those 75-79 and 70% of those 70-74
