The My Main Street Local Business Accelerator program has officially launched in Port Colborne, with a full-time Main Street Ambassador offering support to new and existing small businesses in both the downtown and main street areas.
Port Colborne was one of 65 southern Ontario communities to receive $57,500 to launch the My Main Street Local Business Accelerator program, with a Jan.12 announcement by the Honourable Helena Jaczek, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
At the core of My Main Street is its ambassadors, who provide dedicated support to small business owners at no cost. Ambassadors can also assist their clients with applications for a $10,000 non-repayable business support grant. Participating communities, like Port Colborne, will receive a detailed market profile that can be used to understand what products and services are needed.
The year-long Main Street Ambassador position was recently awarded to Port Colborne resident Olga Loeffen. “With over a decade of experience as a small business owner, I have felt firsthand the hardships and challenges created by the pandemic,” said Loeffen. “I trust that my background in client relationship management, brand design, and marketing will be an excellent pairing with this exciting role. I am thrilled about the opportunity to make impactful connections with the businesses on our main streets as I share the benefits of the program with them.”
“Now that the program has officially begun, we look forward to working with downtown and main street business owners on continued revitalization,” said Bram Cotton, economic development officer.
