hydrant

Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 18, from 7:30 a.m. to end of day, GM BluePlan Engineering Limited, on behalf of the Region of Niagara, will be conducting hydrant fire flow testing in four areas of the City. This testing is being completed as part of Niagara Region’s Master Servicing Plan update.

The following areas, as shown in the maps below, will be impacted:

  • Fares Street, between Nickel Street and Durham Street

  • Johnston Street, between Lincoln Avenue to the dead end

  • Knoll Street, between Helen Street and Main Street West

  • Invertose Drive

Residents in the area indicated on the map may experience a temporary drop in water pressure and/or notice their water is temporarily rusty in colour because the iron and mineral deposits in the water are stirred up. The water is safe to use and consume during the fire flow activities, however, it may stain laundry.

Residents are encouraged to limit their water use and wait until hydrant fire flow activities have finished in their area. Once the fire flow activities are finished, they can run the cold water tap in the lowest level of their home (i.e. laundry tub in the basement, bathtub) until the water runs clear. This may take 10-15 minutes and will likely use less than 1m3 (or 1,000 liters) of water.

If your water does not clear up after flushing for 10-15 minutes, please call the Engineering and Operations Centre at 905-835-5079.

If you have any questions about the hydrant fire flow testing being conducted or about the Region’s Master Servicing Plan, please contact Ilija Stetic from Niagara Region Ilija.Stetic@niagararegion.ca.
