During the holidays, the City of Port Colborne will close administrative buildings while other City buildings will experience differing hours. Meanwhile, there are also a variety of activities taking place throughout the city, as well as additional key information to be aware of.
Closures and holiday hours
Administrative buildings
The City of Port Colborne’s planned holiday closure will begin at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 24 with City administrative buildings reopening Monday, Jan. 6 at 8:30 a.m.
Vale Health & Wellness Centre
The Vale Health & Wellness Centre holiday hours differ from normal on the following days:
- Dec. 24 – Closed at 4 p.m.
- Dec. 25 – Closed
- Dec. 26 – Closed at 4 p.m.
- Dec. 31 – Closed at 6 p.m. (or after the New Year’s Eve event is over)
- Jan. 1 – Closed all day

YMCA of Niagara
The YMCA of Niagara hours differ from normal on the following days:
- Dec. 24– Closed at 2 p.m.
- Dec. 25 – Closed
- December 26 – Open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Dec. 31 – Closed at 6 p.m.
- Jan. 1 – Open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Port Colborne Public Library
The library’s holiday hours differ from normal on the following days:
- Dec 24, 25, and 26: Closed
- Dec 27 and 28: Open
- Dec. 29: Closed
- Dec. 30: Open
- Dec. 31: Closed at 3 p.m.
- Jan.1: Closed
- Jan. 2: Open
The Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum
- The Museum, as previously scheduled, is closed for the season on Dec. 20, 2024.
Public Works
- Essential City services, including but not limited to road maintenance, snow removal and water and wastewater operations will continue.
- For Public Works emergencies after-hours, or during the holiday closures, please call 905-835-2900 and press ‘9’.

Council Meetings

Free holiday events
Participants in Port Colborne’s holiday events are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations to donate to Port Cares.
New Year's Eve Family Celebration:
New Year’s Eve will be celebrated early at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre on Dec. 31 from 2 to 6 p.m. Free family activities include swimming, skating, games, fireworks, and more are available for all ages. Please visit our webpage for more information and for event schedule.
Free Public Skates:
The Vale Health & Wellness Centre will be hosting a variety of FREE Public Skates over the break for families to enjoy. Upcoming dates include:
- Dec. 23 from 1 to 3 p.m.
- Dec. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon
- Dec. 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
- Dec. 29 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
- Dec. 30 from 1 to 3 p.m.
- Dec. 31 from 2 to 5:30 p.m.
- Jan. 2 from noon to 2 p.m.
- Jan. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon
Movies in the Gym and a free public swim at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre
- Dec. 28 at 5:30 p.m. Dolittle will be shown in the gym and swimming will be available from 4 to 8 p.m.
Niagara Region services
Transit
Niagara Region Transit, and Microtransit/Specialized Service will not be operating on Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1. On Dec. 24, there will be no routes after 11 p.m.
Holiday Garbage Collection
There will be no collection on Dec. 25 (Christmas Day) or Jan. 1 (New Year's Day). Collection will be postponed by one day during those weeks.
In the weeks following Christmas Day and New Year's Day, households may put out two extra bags or cans of garbage without a garbage tag on their regular collection day.
Christmas Tree Collection - Jan. 6 - 10
Christmas tree collection is on your regular collection day during the week of Jan. 6 - 10.
Trees must be at the curb by 7 a.m. with all ornaments and decorations removed. Trees wrapped in plastic or buried in snow will not be collected. No artificial trees.
