The first important update is regarding upgrades for festival safety and security. Safety is a top priority for the City of Port Colborne, and to ensure enhancements are made for this year’s festival, the City will be working with an expert in crowd control and security for large festivals and events. This partnership will help support spectators and increase the security presence on the festival grounds, meaning a more comfortable Canal Days experience for all festivalgoers.
The second update is regarding a revamped approach to entertainment on the Sunday of the festival weekend. The City will shift the entertainment from H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park to West Street, where a rooftop performance will take place before and during the beloved fireworks show. Using the rooftop of 214 West Street (corner of Charlotte St. and West St.), a brand-new rooftop show will take place with music filling the air the length of West Street for all spectators to enjoy.
The heritage building, which is more than a century old, once housed the Port Colborne branch of the Imperial Bank of Canada. The building has undergone safety inspections and has been approved for use by relevant authorities.
Bands for the main Canal Days concert series and rooftop show on West Street will be announced in June.
