Two displays at Port Colborne City Hall are honouring doctors on Wednesday, May 1.
The raising of the Doctors’ flag and the illumination of the City Hall cupola in blue mark the observation of Doctors’ Day in Ontario.
“We thank all of the Doctors in Port Colborne for their dedication to our residents and the community,” said Port Colborne Mayor Bill Steele.
Doctors’ Day is celebrated across Ontario, annually on May 1, to recognize the province’s doctors and their commitment to improving the health of all patients. May 1 was chosen to mark the birthday of Dr. Emily Stowe, the first woman to practice medicine in Canada and a founder of Canada’s women's movement.
