Applications open for Niagara’s new Community Emergency Response Team

Niagara Region is searching for volunteers from across Niagara to join a newly minted Community Emergency Response Team.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a group of trained, certified volunteers who help their community in a time of disaster or crisis. Having an emergency response team in place helps increase Niagara's safety and resiliency, and is a critical part of emergency response employed by communities throughout North America.

Port Colborne to receive $267,630 from province for corporate projects

The City of Port Colborne will receive $267,630 from the province’s Municipal Modernization Program (MMP) to implement several projects that improve service delivery and administrative operations.
City staff submitted eight applications to the third intake of the MMP and were approved for the following six projects:
- telecommunications system modernization;
- fire and emergency services digitization and records management;
- digitizing public works permit process;
- implementing route patrol software;

Port Colborne remains under a winter storm warning. Rain showers will transition to snow this evening, with a total of 20 to 30 cm of snow accumulation expected by Thursday night. Snowfall rates may reach up to 2 cm per hour at times with reduced visibility due to the snow.
Our Operations Crews will begin winter control operations at midnight to focus on keeping priority roads clear. A full complement of snowplows will be deployed at 7:30 a.m., weather dependent.
