Approved 2022 operating budget aligns with strategic plan

Port Colborne city council approved the 2022 operating budget at their meeting on Nov. 8, completing the city’s budget process as the capital budget was approved at the Sept. 27, 2021 meeting.  Both the operating and capital budgets focus on supporting the community and corporate pillars identified in the new strategic plan that is guiding the city’s operations into 2023.

Niagara Region maintains ‘AA’ credit rating and ‘stable’ outlook

Standard & Poor’s Global Ratings (S&P) has reaffirmed Niagara Region’s “AA” credit rating and stable outlook.

In a confirmation report released Oct. 18, 2021, the rating agency notes that although the region’s economy was hampered by COVID-19 travel restrictions and the closure of the Canada-U.S. border to non-commercial traffic, Canada’s strong vaccination rate has allowed the reopening of more businesses and the gradual easing of lockdown measures.

At their meeting on Oct.25, Council declared Oct. 29 - Nov. 11 as Poppy Week.  The Port Colborne Legion will be making poppies available at various locations across the city, including storefronts, grocery stores and schools. Poppies are provided as a symbol for people to remember. Any donations are welcomed and appreciated. The Legion is reminding residents that the proper etiquette in wearing a poppy is until the conclusion of Remembrance Day ceremonies on Nov. 11, 2021.
