Yesterday, I was joined by Ward 4 Councillor Monique Aquilina for a meeting with the Sun Retreats Sherkston Shores management team, the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), Niagara EMS, Port Colborne Fire & Emergency Services, the City’s By-Law Services and senior staff at the City to discuss the issues experienced at Sherkston Shores over the Canada Day long weekend. Young Hopf-Wagner Culvert Replacement begin July 15

Beginning on July 15, 2024, County Line Construction Inc. is scheduled to replace the Young Hopf-Wagner culvert on Brookfield Road. The anticipated completion date is July 26, 2024.
During the construction, the City will make every effort to minimize impacts to residents. Clear signage and detours will be provided to direct traffic. No work will be performed on weekends.

Statement from Mayor Steele regarding recent security incidents at Sun Retreats Sherkston Shores

Over the Canada Day long weekend, there were several significant security issues at the Sun Retreats Sherkston Shores resort in Port Colborne. These issues were very serious and required the Niagara Regional Police Services (NRPS) to deploy additional resources, including its Public Order unit to the property.
I am deeply concerned about these security issues, which included a range of problems from possible armed persons, fights, sexual assaults, drug poisoning, and more.

Port Colborne was buzzing this morning as Mayor William Steele welcomed media, sponsors and special guests to share the musical lineup and festival details for the 2024 Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival, presented by GIO Rail.
