In celebration of Seniors’ Month, the City of Port Colborne’s Seniors Advisory Council will be highlighting senior services and programs in the community throughout the month of June.

The City of Port Colborne’s Seniors Advisory Council (SAC) advises City Council with respect to issues that affect seniors in Port Colborne. Committee members from the SAC will be at the Farmers’ Market every Friday in June from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. promoting different organizations that provide services in Port Colborne for seniors:

Friday, June 7, 2019 – Police, Fire & EMS

Friday, June 14, 2019 – Meals on Wheels, City of Port Colborne & YMCA

Friday, June 21, 2019 – Alzheimer, Hospice, Port Cares & Bridges

Friday, June 28, 2019 – Active Transportation & Age Friendly Businesses, Travel

“Our senior residents are active contributors to our community,” said Ashley Grigg, director, community and economic development. “Through our Seniors Advisory Council, and support from local agencies, our focus is to ensure services and programs are available for them to assist in their day-to-day lives.”

The City of Port Colborne will also be launching PORTicipate Profiles, highlighting seniors in the community who are active users of many of the seniors programs, services, and volunteer opportunities on their social media platforms.

For more information about the Seniors Advisory Council, call 905-835-2900 ext. 534 or email scac@portcolborne.ca.

The purpose of the Seniors Advisory Council is to:

  • Advise Council with respect to issues that have or will have an impact on Port Colborne seniors; and

  • Advise Council with respect to ways in which Port Colborne can become a more age-friendly community for persons of all ages and abilities; and

  • Identify and advise Council with respect to opportunities that help establish policies, services, and structures, which support and enable seniors to live in security, enjoy good health and continue to participate fully in society.
