OHL exhibition game coming to Port Colborne

Posted by Michelle Cuthbert on Monday, May 13th, 2019

The Niagara IceDogs and Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) will be facing off in an exhibition game at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre in Port Colborne on Friday, August 30, 2019.  Doors will open at 6 p.m., warm-up at 6:30 p.m., with a 7 p.m. puck drop.

“The Niagara Ice Dogs are excited to bring our team to Port Colborne during our upcoming exhibition season. The Vale Health & Wellness Centre is a first-class facility and it will be great to showcase our team to our fans down in South Niagara,” stated Nino Bourikas, director, community marketing and group sales, Niagara IceDogs Hockey Club.

Revenue from the exhibition games ticket sales will be going to support the Port Colborne Wave Girl’s Hockey Association.  The girls’ minor hockey program continues to grow with plans to add one or two teams for the upcoming 2019-2020 season.

“The ability to host the Niagara IceDogs and support the next generation of players through the Port Colborne Wave program is what we envisioned when we built the Vale Health & Wellness Centre,” said Mayor Bill Steele. “Other events for the day are in the planning stages and we are excited for the community to PORTicipate in “Niagara Ice Dogs Day” in Port Colborne”.

Tickets go on sale at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre Box Office, 550 Elizabeth Street, on Monday, May 20, 2019.  Box Office hours are Mondays 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. & 5 - 9 p.m.; Tuesdays 3 – 9 p.m.; Wednesdays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; Thursdays 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. & 5 – 9 p.m.; Fridays 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Saturdays 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.; closed Sundays.  Tickets are $10 each, General Admission.

Fun Fact - this will be the first time the City of Port Colborne will host a major Junior Hockey game in almost 50 years.  Back in the late 1960’s at the Westside Arena, the Jr. A Niagara Falls Flyers used to come into Port Colborne to play exhibition games against the Port Colborne Jr. B Sailors.
