Starting Friday, July 24, 2020, Port Colborne children will be able to return to playing at their neighbourhood playgrounds as the City begins reopening them upon entering stage three of the Province’s reopening framework.

City staff will begin opening playgrounds in a staged approach, starting with H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park, Centennial Park/Cedar Bay Beach, and Lock 8 Gateway Park. These playgrounds will be open by the end of the day on July 24, 2020, for use over the weekend. The reopening will take time as staff needs to remove fencing, complete inspection reports for each playground, perform an initial clean, and post COVID-19 precautionary signage, including health and safety guidelines for play.

“We’re very excited to be able to reopen another recreational amenity for our residents,” said Ashley Grigg, director, community and economic development. “We also know our residents are excited. If you see a playground open in your neighbourhood that’s the green light to begin PORTicipating again; however, if the playground in your neighbourhood is still barricaded we’re asking that you use an already opened playground until we complete our reopening protocols to ensure they are safe for everyone.”

The reopening of playgrounds can be added to the list of recreational amenities already open in Port Colborne, which include trails, public boat launch ramp, beaches, Algoport Skate and BMX Park at Lock 8 Gateway Park and Discovery Spray Pad at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park.
