Port Colbornes Discovery Spray Pad reopening June 26

Posted by Corporate Communications on Thursday, June 25th, 2020

Just in time for Port Colborne kids' first official day of summer vacation, the Discovery Spray Pad, located at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park, is ready to reopen Friday, June 26, 2020, at 10 a.m. This reopening aligns with allowances outlined in Stage 2 of the Province’s reopening plans, which permits the safe and gradual reopening of splash pads.

The Discovery Spray Pad will be open daily until Labour Day from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. From Labour Day, Sept. 7, until Oct. 1 it will be open Saturday and Sundays only from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

“The Discovery Spray Pad and H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park are a local favourite, especially with the arrival of the warm weather. We are excited that Port Colborne kids can return to having fun (safely) this summer with the opening of more recreational amenities,” said Nicole Halasz, manager, parks and recreation. “With the opening of the Discovery Spray Pad, in addition to our other recreation amenities, staff are making sure all health and safety guidelines provided by Public Health are being followed to ensure everyone’s safety”.

A few things residents and visitors choosing to use the Discovery Spray Pad should be mindful of include:

- Staff will not supervise the Discovery Spray Pad. Users can report any spray pad concerns to the Parks and Recreation Division Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at 905-835-2900, or after-hours at 905-835-5079. In the case of an emergency, users are to call 9-1-1.

- The Discovery Spray Pad will be cleaned intermittently.

- Users are to maintain 2 meters (6 feet) of physical separation and be mindful of others.

- The playground equipment at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park remains closed under Provincial orders.

- The public washrooms at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park are open daily from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

In addition to the Discovery Spray Pad’s opening on Friday, June 26 is the opening of Nickel Beach and the Farmers’ Market. Recreational amenities that have previously been open include the Algoport Skateboard and BMX Park, Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach, and the Tennis Courts (143 Helen Street and Centennial Park).

Anyone taking advantage of these spaces is to follow the best practices as outlined by Niagara Region Public Health to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community. These include frequent washing/sanitization of hands, physical separation, and staying home if displaying symptoms or having been in contact with cases of the virus.

By-law Enforcement will continue to enforce physical distancing on City/public property, dogs off-leash, and anyone using closed park amenities. To report and infraction to the By-law department, email bylawenforcement@portcolborne.ca
