Make your Pitch

Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch is a high school entrepreneurship competition that challenges students in Grades 9-12 to pitch their business ideas in a two-minute video that will be voted on by the public and expert judges. Finalists will present their ideas in front of a judging panel in Toronto at Discovery Conference in May 2019 for a chance to receive reserved entry into the Summer Company program.

Summer Company Program

Looking for a summer job? How would you like to be a CEO, CFO, Marketing Director or Operations Manager? Why not start your own SUMMER COMPANY? 

Learning how to run your own student business is one of the best summer jobs you can have. You get to be your own boss while learning what it takes to manage a business. Sales, marketing, bookkeeping, customer relationship management and networking are just a few of the highly useful skills you’ll develop.


Why Apply


The Summer Company program offers young entrepreneurs:

  • advice and mentorship from local business leaders to help get the business up and running

  • up to $1,500 in the spring to help with business start-up costs

  • up to $1,500 upon successful completion of the program requirements


Who is Eligible


  • You may participate in the Summer Company program if you:

  • live in Ontario and are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

  • are 15 to 29 years old (with parental authorization if you are under 18)

  • are a student in high school, college or university

  • are returning to school in the fall, after the program ends

  • are not working at another job or going to school for more than 12 hours a week during the program

  • are not already running a business

  • you have not received a Summer Company grant in the past.


Application Process


The program for 2019 is open through May 19. Here are the steps to apply:

  • Check to see if you’re eligible for the program

  • Complete the online application inquiry

  • Select your local program provider

  • Assign yourself a password

  • Submit your application inquiry

  • Your selected program provider will contact you and will ask you to submit an online application, which includes a business plan and cash flow. You can start, log out, and log back into your application any time. Your program provider will help you with your application, if required.

  • Your program provider will review your application.

  • If your application meets the program’s requirements, your program provider will invite you for an interview.

  • After the interview, your program provider will let you know if you’ve been approved to participate in the program


Additional information

 A limited number of spaces are available in the program each year, so it is advisable to register early!
