Winter Control Activities – April 15, 2018

The following is an Update of today’s Winter Control Activities: 

Update: 7:50 p.m.

Plows have been active since 5:00 a.m. after sanding through the night. Crews will continue plowing with a second shift continuing to work at clearing roads into early evening. All primary roads have been plowed and secondaries are currently being tackled. 

No reports of any trees down and no reports of any localized flooding.

Road patrols continue to monitor conditions.

With the Rainfall Warning of 20-25 mm through the night staff will be monitoring for any flooding issues.

A full plow session took place last evening. All primary and secondary roads were sanded.

Sanding crews were dispatched at 5am this morning and continue to sand the primary roads.

Once the sanding material has taken affect, primary roads will be plowed.

Staff will continue to monitor the road conditions throughout this storm event.

Residents are reminded that during winter weather conditions, pushing or blowing snow and ice onto or across public roadways creates an unsafe situation for drivers.  Residents can assist  in the efficiency of the operation by not parking vehicles on roadways during winter control activities

Section 181, Highway Traffic Act  - "No person shall deposit snow or ice on a roadway without permission in writing to do so from the Ministry or the road authority responsible for the maintenance of the road"
