Relocation Information

Port Colborne is a dynamic city of 18,500 people on the shores of Lake Erie. A part of the Niagara region, our community offers the best of small and large city infrastructure and activities. Situated on Niagara's South Coast at the gateway to the Welland Canal, Port Colborne's history and vision for the future is unique and makes it special. The Welland Canal has provided an impetus for residential, commercial and industrial development along the waterfront. Port Colborne's urban area is centred on around the canal, and includes historic shopping districts, established neighbourhoods, and new residential subdivisions. A number of major industries are also located on or close to the waterfront, along with public beaches and a public marina that front onto Lake Erie.

Community programs and events ensure that there are always a number of activities to participate in, from arts and culture to theatre to recreation activities to large festivals. As such, a strong sense of community connects the residents of our community. The Roselawn Centre for the Arts in Port Colborne is home to the celebrated Showboat Festival Theatre and hosts many additional musical and theatrical events and public functions throughout the year. The City also hosts the annual Canal Days Festival which celebrates Port Colborne's marine heritage with tall-ship visits and programming around the Welland Canal, which runs through the heart of our city.

In 2012 the City's new Health & Wellness Centre will be opening, with two pools, two ice rinks, an indoor walking track, a field house, and a bocce-ball court. This will complement the dozens of kilometres of paved, multi-use trails in the community and other athletics and recreational facilities and boost the quality of life that Port Colborne affords its residents.

Port Colborne has a strong history of manufacturing and boasts recent employment growth in this sector. The city has also seen strong employment growth the health care sector, and various service industries. Port Colborne has also been attracting many self-employed and telecommuting professionals, taking advantage of the community's convenient location, strong telecommunications network, and more relaxed lifestyle. Outside of Port Colborne, there are over 200,000 jobs within a 30 minute drive. There are also numerous education facilities in Port Colborne and Niagara to upgrade skills or to embark on a new career path.
