Port Colborne ready to PORTicipate online in Niagara wide Canada Day celebrations

Posted by Corporate Communications on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020

The City of Port Colborne will be celebrating Canada’s birthday online on Wednesday, July 1, and is encouraging residents to PORTicipate in the fun on the City’s Facebook page. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the cancellation of the Port Colborne Optimist Club’s annual Canada Day celebrations at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park and the City’s fireworks display; however, it cannot cancel Port Colborne’s Canadian pride!

Canada Day, the Niagara Way!

On Wednesday, July 1 communities from across the Niagara region are coming together for a Canada Day first - Canada Day, the Niagara Way! Port Colborne, along with its fellow 11 municipalities, the Niagara Parks Commission, and the Niagara Region will celebrate Canada’s birthday online with performances by Tim Hicks, Avenue Inn, Great Lake Swimmers, Spencer Burton, Juliet Dunn & Peter Shea, and Rick McLean.

Online festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a Facebook Watch Party. Residents can tune in on the City of Port Colborne’s Facebook page to catch the action!

Virtual Canada Day Celebrations with the Government of Canada

Residents can also join the Federal Government for virtual Canada Day shows. There will be a daytime show from 1 - 2 p.m. and an evening show from 8 - 10 p.m. Both shows will include artistic performances, messages from heads of state, and more! The Canada Day Celebrations will be concluded with a virtual firework show at 10 p.m. To access each show on July 1, visit www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/canada-day.html.

The Federal Government has also created a Canada Day celebration kit, which includes interactive, creative, and educational activities for the whole family. To download the activity pack, visit www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/canada-day.html.

Residents can also join the Federal Government on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, to stay up-to-date on the virtual activities, shows, artistic performances and more.
