COVID-19 Update

Port Colborne, we know these last few months have been hard. After months of closures, self-isolation and physical distancing, and with the weather getting warmer, we know that you want to enjoy all the amenities and activities we love about our city this time of year. As per the Province’s announcement this past Monday, we remain is phase 1 of their re-opening plan and are still under a State of Emergency.

Some restrictions are easing up and several Port Colborne amenities have re-opened, however, some remain closed, like our beaches. As we head into the weekend, we hope you enjoy the beautiful weather forecast, but to be mindful of where and how you can #PORTicipate.

Here’s a quick overview of the βœ… and 🚫 :

βœ… *NEW* Physical distancing gatherings up to 10 people as of Friday, June 12 at 12:01 a.m.

βœ… The Alogport Skateboard & BMX Park at Lock 8 Gateway Park;
βœ… Your Port Colborne Public Library, 310 King Street, is offering curbside pick-up;
βœ… Public boat launch ramp at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park;
βœ… Shoreline fishing, including at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park (note that the fishing docks remain closed);
βœ… Bringing a chair or blanket to relax in parks or have a picnic;

βœ… Go for a walk or bike ride on one of our trails
βœ… Kicking a ball, playing catch, flying a kite, and other such activities with members of their own households;
βœ… Use of basketball and soccer nets with members of your own household at community parks (excluding the Vale Health & Wellness Centre / T.A. Lannan Sports Complex);
βœ… Individual activities such as yoga or exercising in our parks, provided not in a group or class.
βœ… Take your dog to the Elm Street leash-free dog park; and
βœ… Play tennis at the Tennis/Pickelball courts (143 Helen Street and Cedar Bay/Centennial Park).

Port Colborne amenities that remain closed:
🚫 Outdoor playgrounds, play structures/equipment, and outdoor fitness equipment
🚫 Municipal beaches, including Cedar Bay/Centennial Beach and Nickel Beach


🚫 Discovery Spray Pad at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park
🚫 Public Washrooms
🚫 Farmers’ Market

⚠️ Residents must still abide by restrictions in place by Provincial emergency orders by limiting groups to no more than 10 people (as of Friday, June 12 at 12:01 a.m.), while maintaining a two-metre (six feet) physical separation. Anyone taking advantage of these spaces is to follow the best practices as outlined by Niagara Region Public Health to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community. These include frequent washing/sanitization of hands, physical separation, avoiding touching of shared surfaces, and staying home if displaying symptoms or having been in contact with cases of the virus.
