June is Seniors Month

Posted by Corporate Communications on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2020

At their meeting on May 25, 2020, Council proclaimed June as Seniors Month.

On Monday, June 1, 2020, Mayor Steele raised the Age-Friendly Niagara and City of Port Colborne Flag with Senior Citizen Advisory Council members Betty Konc and Valerie King, for the month of June to recognize and honour the seniors in our community.

This Seniors Month we would like to thank and recognize our Senior Advisory Council (SAC).

Their purpose is to:

- Advise Council of issues that will have an effect on Port Colborne seniors;

- Identity ways Port Colborne can become a more age-friendly community for persons of all ages and ability levels; and

- Identify and advise of opportunities to establish policies, services and structures that support and enable seniors to live in security, enjoy good health, and continue to participate fully in society.

The members of the SAC are: Betty Konc, Chair, Susan Brown, Vice-chair, Angie Desmarais, Council representative, Connie Butler, Nancy Busch, Audrey Garrett, Heidi Grzesina, Valerie King, Lesley Richard, Maggie Wahl-Horne, Lisa Coxen, Niagara Region Seniors Community Program, Jonna Wolfenberg, Community Support Services of Niagara, and staff representatives, Ashley Grigg, Director of Community & Economic Development, and Karen Walsh, Executive Assistant to the Director.
