The City is now accepting the second round of grant applications from non-profit organizations until Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
The granting committee distributes approximately $30,000 annually to non-profit organizations, charitable organizations, and service organizations that benefit the citizens of Port Colborne and enhance the quality of life of the community. The funds are from the interest earned annually on the sale of the City’s shares in Port Colborne hydro.
Organizations can only apply once in a fiscal period, therefore, organizations that applied for the first round of applications that completed in Jan. 2020 are not eligible to apply for the second round. The deadline for the first round for applications in 2021 is Jan. 31.
In Dec. 2019, Council updated the grant policy and application. Details of the changes made to the policy are outlined in the memo to council, which can be found on the Grant Policy Committee page of the City’s website, www.portcolborne.ca/page/grants_for_non-profits. The Grant Policy Committee established in Dec. 2015 when council passed by-law 6317/143/15 and oversees the distribution grants to non-profit organizations. Grant committee members include Mayor William Steele, Councillor Eric Beauregard, Councillor Gary Bruno, Bea Kenny, and Brenda Haymes.
