The City of Port Colborne has currently launched a pilot project for an innovation, creativity, and culinary incubator/co-working hub at the Roselawn Centre. The pilot project is set to run from Feb. 17 – July 31, 2020 and is currently accepting applications.
During the pilot project timeframe, entrepreneurs looking to participate in the innovation, creativity, and culinary incubator/co-working hub, will have access to a desk, power, internet, and use of printer/photocopier. Hours of operation are from Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., however, after-hours access is on a case-by-case basis. Entrepreneurs participating in the pilot project will also have access to the City’s Business and Entrepreneurship Support Services (BESS), also located at the Roselawn Centre, for business planning and other support.
Throughout the pilot project timeframe, the City is also conducting a feasibility study and has contracted MDB Insights, an economic development consulting firm, to assist with the process. In partnership with MDB Insights, the City is hosting an information session and workshop Monday, March 2, 2020 from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Roselawn Centre, 296 Fielden Avenue. Service providers and small business operators are invited to attend for a discussion and information gathering session to assist the City in understanding whether a co-working hub will be viable for the city.
As part of the feasibility study, MDB Insights has also launched a short survey for small business operators and entrepreneurs looking to start a business to complete, to assist the consultants in gathering data and determining the viability of an innovation, creativity and culinary incubator in the city.
“The goal of the innovation, creativity, and culinary incubator is to be an economically self-sustaining co-working space and commercial kitchen innovation hub that will facilitate collaboration and support business growth across multiple regional and local sectors,” said Julian Douglas-Kameka, economic development officer. “Our vision is that this co-working hub will foster an environment that supports new business development and commercialization with the region.”
