A Message of Thanks

A MESSAGE OF THANKS |

 

 

 

 

 

 

During the evening of Oct. 31, 2019, into the early morning of Nov. 1, 2019, the residents of Port Colborne experienced a wind storm that brought gusts of up to 130 km per hour, resulting in a loss of power, a loss to essential infrastructure, and devastation across our city.

I would like to express thanks and gratitude to all our city crews clearing brush and debris from roadways and parks, removing wood, monitoring and cleaning out our municipal drains, sweeping streets of debris on our road allowances, dispatchers, and communications staff, all of whom worked around the clock to get Port Colborne up and running.

Thank you to Canadian Niagara Power and all contracted crews for their assistance in restoring power to our city and keeping us updated throughout the process.

A thank you to Safe Tree for their round-the-clock assistance to both Port Colborne staff and Canadian Niagara Power with the removal of trees across our city.

Sincere gratitude to Port Cares and the Reach Out Centre for opening their doors for our Reception Centre to service residents impacted by power outages. Thank you to the Niagara Region Community Services and The Canadian Red Cross for assisting in mobilizing, outfitting, and volunteering at the Reception Centre.

Thank you to staff across departments at the Niagara Region for assisting in response to damages and communicating updates to residents.

Thank you to the Port Colborne YMCA for opening their shower facilities to residents impacted by power outages.

Thank you to District 6 of the Niagara Regional Police Service for patrolling our streets during the power outage to ensure the safety of our residents and business owners.

Thank you to the staff and volunteers of Port Colborne Fire & Emergency Services for responding to multiple calls during the event.

To our local media outlets, thank you for assisting us in keeping our residents informed.

Thank you to the Port Colborne Lions Club for their cooperation in re-scheduling their annual food drive to Saturday, November 9.

Our city came together, resulting in no injuries, and a stronger sense of community pride as neighbors extended a hand to one another, offering help where needed.

Thank you for your continued supPORT and patience as we worked, and continue to work, to re-build your community.
