Janet Street infrastructure replacement project to begin Sept. 30

On Sept. 9, 2019 council approved report 2019-135 to award project #2019-06 - Janet Street Infrastructure Replacement to Alfred Beam Excavating Limited of Fort Erie, ON.

The Janet Street Infrastructure Replacement project includes replacing the existing watermain, sanitary sewers and storm sewers, including new service laterals to property line for each. This will extend from Killaly Street East to the north end of Janet Street where Lakeshore Catholic High School’s property begins. The existing 150 millimetre cast iron watermain will be replaced with a new 200 millimetre PVC watermain to improve hydrant flows for fire protection as well as provide greater capacity to support future watermain upgrades in this area. The existing asbestos cement sanitary sewers will be replaced with new PVC sanitary sewers. The existing storm sewers on both sides of the road will be replaced with new PVC storm sewers.

This project will aid the City in its goal to maintain and operate a quality Water Distribution System throughout the service area. It will also assist in lowering ongoing maintenance costs of the City’s sanitary and storm sewer networks.

Construction will begin Monday, Sept. 30, 2019 and will be completed by Dec. 20, 2019, with some additional landscaping and asphalt restoration in spring 2020. Janet Street will be open to local traffic only during a majority of the construction. Signs will be posted directing drivers and pedestrians to use the detour route on Clarke Street. The City and contractor have also been in contact with the Niagara Catholic District School Board and Niagara Student Transportation Services to coordinate bus and student traffic during the construction period.

We appreciate your patience as we work towards creating an even better community.
