Fall roadside mowing program underway

Posted by Michelle Idzenga on Tuesday, September 24th, 2019

It's the first official week of fall and our operations department is commencing with their fall roadside mowing program.

For the past four years, all rural area roadsides are cut twice annually, spring and fall, to capture the growing season, with the exception of high traffic roads that are also cut prior to Canal Days. This practice also coincides with council’s approval in 2015 of the 'Butterfly Initiative', where the Environmental Committee identified specific rural roads that were to be cut twice annually as to not upset the natural activities of butterflies.

Over the next 2-3 weeks, while roadside mowing is being completed, residents are reminded to be aware of slow-moving vehicles along the road allowance. The tractors performing the cut will be equipped with 4-way flashers and 360-degree beacons as they work.

Questions or concerns? Call our Operations Department at 905-835-5079.
