Community Safety Committees 25th Annual Safety Awareness Day

Posted by Michelle Cuthbert on Friday, May 17th, 2019

On Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. the 25th Annual Safety Awareness Day will be held at the Port Colborne Fire Hall, 3 Killaly Street West, to prepare Port Colborne residents for a safe and healthy summer.

This free event will allow members of the community and their families the opportunity to learn more about the importance of not only personal safety, but a safe community.

“Our department works very hard to inform the residents of Port Colborne about the importance of safety, and of course fire prevention. We try to accomplish this by providing the necessary tools and skills required to ensure our residents know how to be safe if or when an emergency arises,” said Charles Turpin, Fire Prevention Officer of Port Colborne. “Community Safety Awareness Day has become a huge contributor to providing Port Colborne families with the information and tools they need.”

Agencies PORTicipating in Community Safety Awareness Day include:

  • Port Colborne Fire & Emergency Services will have interactive displays, including Touch-A-Truck, home escape planning, and at approximately 1 p.m. Port Colborne Fire & Emergency Services will be demonstrating a live burn cell to provide a vivid image of how quickly fire can spread and the importance of having working smoke alarms in your home.

  • Port Colborne Marine Auxiliary will be providing boating safety information;

  • Port Colborne Optimist Club will be operating the Bike Rodeo to provide bike safety tips through the use of an interactive bike course, with support from Port Colborne High School Broken Spoke Program and the Niagara Regional Police Services;
