A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for this evening. A band of lake effect snow off Lake Erie is currently affecting portions of New York state. This band of snow is expected to shift northward later today, possibly reaching into southern Niagara. Snowfall amount of up to 10 cm or so is possible close to Lake Erie. Local blowing snow is also possible. Very poor visibilities are possible at times. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, particularly this evening.
Our Operations Centre is monitoring the weather and our equipment and staff are ready to respond accordingly.
In preparation for tonight's weather and snow removal activities, residents are reminded not to park vehicles on roadways. If your vehicle is parked illegally you will be issued a $75 ticket along with a purple tow notice.
Residents are reminded that during winter weather conditions, pushing or blowing snow and ice onto or across public roadways creates an unsafe situation for drivers. Residents can assist in the efficiency of the operation by not parking vehicles on roadways during winter control activities
Section 181, Highway Traffic Act - "No person shall deposit snow or ice on a roadway without permission in writing to do so from the Ministry or the road authority responsible for the maintenance of the road"
