Message from the Fire Chief

Posted by Michelle Cuthbert on Thursday, December 13th, 2018

Your City’s Fire Department has continued to work diligently in our efforts to keep our City safe from fire tragedies. We have not done this alone. Numerous individuals, corporations and businesses have assisted us in or efforts.

Fire safety continues to be our first priority. We currently have a thirty-nine (39%) compliance rate. Although this percentage is far from our goal of 100% compliance, it continues to move ever so slowly towards that goal.

We need your help to continue to improve our fire safety program statistics. The Christmas season brings with it added risk. Additional lighting, the use of candles, as well as cooking and festive celebrations increase those risks. Remember the importance of all things that you value in your life

• your family

• your home

• your valuables

• your pets

• your life

We want to also thank all of you for your support of our toy drive for children in our community in need. Working with Port Cares you have assisted us in making a difference in family’s lives at this joyous time of year.

Without you, many families would have celebrated Christmas in a far less special way. Your efforts have truly made a difference once again this year.

On behalf of all members of your City’s Fire Department – thank you.

Please celebrate cautiously, enjoy your families and always remember fire safety. If you require assistance in ensuring that your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working properly and have been placed properly, please do not hesitate to call us for assistance at 905-834-4512.

Thank you for assisting us in our fire safety efforts “Merry Christmas”.

Never Think It Can’t Happen To You “Fire Kills”

Thomas B. Cartwright, City Fire Chief
