City to purchase new Mobi-Chair thanks to gofundme campaign

After Laura Mainella and Brian Salmon of 91.7 GIANT-FM announced a gofundme campaign on their morning show Thursday, September 13, an outpouring of support was received from the community, with a total of $2,060.00 raised in four days and exceeding the $1,700.00 goal. The cheque was presented to Mayor John Maloney at the GIANT-FM station on Monday, September 17.

“On behalf of members of Council and staff, thank you to GIANT FM and our community for your continuous support and readiness to respond,” said Mayor John Maloney. “The funds generated will allow us to purchase a new Mobi-Chair for our residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come.”

On Thursday, September 6, 2018 one of two new Mobi-Chair’s, accessible beach chairs, purchased by the City for resident and visitor use at Nickel Beach was stolen. After releasing details to the public on Wednesday, September 12 seeking residents help locating the chair Giant FM was inspired to launch a gofundme campaign to help the City purchase a new chair for the Port Colborne community.

If anyone from the public has any information about the whereabouts of the stolen Mobi-Chair they are to contact the Niagara Regional Police Services, 6 District (Port Colborne) by calling 905-735-7811 ext. 3200 and refer to incident number 18-88409, or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
