gofundme campaign launched to help City purchase new Mobi-Chair

On Thursday, September 6, 2018 one of two new Mobi-Chair’s, accessible beach chairs, purchased by the City for resident and visitor use at Nickel Beach was stolen. After releasing details to the public on Wednesday, September 12 seeking residents help locating the chair Giant FM was inspired to launch a gofundme campaign to help the City purchase a new chair for the Port Colborne community.

On their morning show Thursday, September 13, 91.7 GIANT FM morning show hosts Laura Mainella and Brian Salmon announced to CAO Scott Luey that they would be launching a gofundme page in an effort to fundraise the $1,700 required to purchase a new chair.

“It’s the support and actions like this by our community, and GIANT FM’s readiness to PORTicipate that make us proud to be a part of the Port Colborne community,” said Scott Luey, CAO. “Their efforts are shedding positivity onto an otherwise disheartening story in our community”.

Laura Mainella, who spearheaded the gofundme campaign, said, “After hearing of the flurry of criminal activity in the City, we felt the need and urgency to restore faith back into the community. Behaviour like this is deplorable and we wanted to show the City how kind and compassionate our GIANT FM listeners can be.”

Members of council and staff are extremely appreciative of the communities support and GIANT FM’s efforts.

If anyone from the public has any information about the whereabouts of the stolen Mobi-Chair they are to contact the Niagara Regional Police Services, 6 District (Port Colborne) by calling 905-735-7811 ext. 3200 and refer to incident number 18-88409, or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
