Summer days are for the beach!

 

This summer the City of Port Colborne hopes residence and visitors enjoy their two beaches: Nickel Beach and Centennial – Cedar Bay Beach.

 

Nickel Beach is a popular summer hot spot in Port Colborne and is one of the only beaches around where visitors can park directory on the beach (for a fee of $10 per car). Season passes are also available for regular beach-goers, and of course, walk-ins are free.

Visitors to Nickel Beach can explore the sand dune formations, Carolinian Forest and home of the Fowler Toad, a protected species. This public beach area contains more than 2 km of white sands, shady picnic spots, and open areas for recreational activities such as beach volleyball or beach soccer. Washroom facilities are also available on-site. The City reminds visitors that dogs, horses, alcohol, ATV’s and dirt bikes are not permitted.

 

Nickel Beach is open from Victoria Day to Labour Day on weekdays (Monday – Thursday) from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., weekends (Friday – Sunday) from 9:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. and holiday weekends (Friday – Monday) from 9:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.).

 

Getting here: Located on Lake Erie at 69 Lake Road, at the southern end of Welland Street at Lake Street, on the east side of the Welland Canal.

 

The hidden-gem of beaches in Port Colborne is Centennial – Cedar Bay Beach, also referred to as Humberstone Centennial Park Beach. Located at 2795 Vimy Road, this public beach along Lake Erie is equipped with ample parking, washrooms, a playground and park that is equipped for visitors to #PORTicipate in beach volleyball, ball hockey and tennis. The cost is free but the City reminds visitors that alcohol, cars, ATV’s and other motorized vehicles are not permitted on the beach.

 

Getting here: :Located on Lake Erie at 2795 Vimy Ridge Road, at the southern end of Cedar Bat Road, off of Highway #3, on the east side of the Welland Canal.

Reminder: Both Nickel Beach and Centennial Beach do not have lifeguards and visitors are reminded swim at their own risk.

 

The Niagara Region Public Health Department samples the water at both Nickel Beach and Centennial Beach from Victoria Day to Labour Day, based on a number of factors including popularity, water quality, maintenance, and amenities.
