On Saturday, May 26, 2018 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. the 24th annual Safety Awareness Day will be held at the Port Colborne Fire Hall, 3 Killaly Street West, to prepare Port Colborne residents for a safe and healthy summer.
This free event will allow members of the community and their families to learn more about the importance of overall safety and fire prevention. Port Colborne Fire & Emergency Services will have interactive displays and Port Colborne Marine Auxiliary will be providing boating safety information.
“Our department works very hard to inform the residents of Port Colborne about the importance of safety and fire prevention. We try to accomplish this by providing the necessary tools and skills required to ensure our residents know how to be safe,” said Scott Lawson, Fire Prevention Officer of Port Colborne. “Community Safety Awareness Day has become a huge contributor to providing this information to the families of Port Colborne.”
Other activities involved in the event include: the Bike Rodeo, operated by the Port Colborne Optimist Club, to provide bike safety tips through the use of an interactive bike course; Touch-A-Truck; and complimentary hotdogs and refreshments. At approximately 1 p.m. Port Colborne Fire & Emergency Services will be demonstrating a live burn cell to provide a vivid image of how quickly fire can spread.
