Water/Wastewater Service Cost Increases

Posted by Michelle Cuthbert on Thursday, April 19th, 2018

Effective with the May 2018 billing period, an annual increase of approximately $119.00 has been approved by Council.  A home with average water usage will see a bill increase of approximately $30.00 to their quarterly bill.  That is $10.00 a month for the distribution of clean, safe drinking water and the treatment of wastewater.

The recent increase in service costs to ensure our water & wastewater infrastructure is properly maintained, as mandated by the Province of Ontario, is to provide Port Colborne residents access to safe drinking water and the proper disposal and treatment of wastewater.

City staff commend the residents of Port Colborne for their water conservation efforts that impacts the variable costs on your bill, which is your consumption usage, and the establish rates. The fixed service costs associated with water/wastewater services are in place, regardless of use, as a reliable and safe water distribution system is required.

Celebrate Drinking Water Week with us May 6-12, 2018. Drinking Water Week provides the opportunity for water professionals and communities to join together to recognize the critical role water plays in our lives and the quality of life we enjoy. Stay tuned for more details on how the City of Port Colborne will be celebrating Drinking Water Week. We will be using this week to encourage residents to get to know their tap water. Where the water comes from, how it is treated and the laws that protect it.
