Wind Storm Update in Port Colborne as of 4:38 p.m. on April 4, 2018:
Please be advised that the Port Colborne YMCA is currently without power due to the weather conditions. For the time being the facility is closed, but please stay tuned for updates as to when the power is restored. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Vale Health & Wellness Centre is currently without power but operating off of a back-up generator. Ice rentals are cancelled until 6:00 p.m.

Power outages are being reported on the West Side of Port Colborne.

 

Wind Storm Update in Port Colborne as of 2:25 p.m. on April 4, 2018:

Lakeshore Road East (west of Snider between Snider & Reuter) is closed due to downed tree. CNP will be arriving on site.

Most southern part of Fielden Ave at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park / Boat Ramp is closed due to ice/water level.

Downed trees on Snider Rd off Hwy 140 & Third Concession nearest Hwy 140.

Downed trees on Third Concession near Chippawa Rd have been cleared.

The gates are down at Eagle Marsh Drain and the pump is working very well.

 

Severe Weather – Wind Warning – April 4, 2018

On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, Environment Canada issued a Wind Warning for Niagara Region.  Very strong Wind gusts up to 90km/hr at times are expected and will shift to westerly this afternoon.

Yes, regular ambulance, fire and police services are available through 9-1-1.

Do not call 9-1-1 for non-emergency situations, including:

Reporting power outages

Inquiring about the status of the storm

Flooded basements

 

What’s the number for blocked catch basins, water over the road or sewer back-up?

Call Port Colborne Operations at 905-835-5079.

For power outages or if a tree has fallen on power lines please call Canadian Niagara Power at 1-844-5011-WIRE (9473).

 I called the City and I can’t get through to anyone.

 During times of high demand our call volume will increase. Please be patient while City

staff work to answer calls and crews work to resolve emergency situations.

 What can I do to protect my property?

 Secure or bring indoors any loose items around your property.  Clear catch basins near your property of branches and other debris. 

 What sort of emergency supplies should I have?

What is the City doing to prepare for the storm?

 We currently have crews clearing storm grates and roadside catch basins.

Staff will also patrol drains and will remove any downed trees or debris which may reduce flow.

 What City services / programs are closed?

 There are no closures or program cancellations at this time.  Closures will be updated as they happen on the City’s website at www.portcolborne.ca

 

I’ve lost my power?

 Call Canadian Niagara Power 1-844-5011-WIRE (9473).

 I smell gas?

 Call 911.

 I have auto and/or property damage?

 Call your insurance provider.

 Will garbage collection be affected?

 Waste management is handled by the Niagara Region. As of now, there are no plans to
