Do you need a family doctor?

Posted by Carrie McIntosh on Thursday, July 5th, 2012

July 5, 2012 - Yesterday it came to the City's attention that one of our Port Colborne physicians, Dr. Proulx, has notified his patients that he is relocating his practice to St. Catharines.  Dr. Proulx has served our community very well over the past years and unfortunately, due to various circumstances, he has decided to relocate.  Dr. Proulx has noted that his patients may remain with his practice if they choose to attend at his St. Catharines office.  We wish Dr. Proulx well and much success with his practice.

The City has already received many inquiries from Dr. Proulx's patients and it is important that any inquiries be directed to the Health Services Coordinator, Joanne Ferraccioli either by email at joanneferraccioli@portcolborne.ca or by telephone 905-835-2901 x. 130.

The City's Physician Recruitment Committee and Health Services Coordinator continue to work through various avenues including HealthForce Ontario to bring physicians to our community to provide care to those citizens who are not rostered with a physician and who would like to receive care from a family doctor within the community.

Unfortunately at the end of 2011 a wonderful family physician, Dr. Haibo Xu, closed his Port Colborne practice because he could not roster enough patients.  Therefore, the following information is critical for any citizens who inquire about a family doctor in Port Colborne:

It is extremely important for any of Dr. Proulx's patients wishing to remain with a family doctor in Port Colborne and any other citizens who require a family doctor to provide their name and contact information to the City so that we have an indication of how many potential patients would be available to roster with any new doctor(s) available to practice in Port Colborne.
