With the summer months ahead local kids are gearing up for a season of fun in the sun, but the Port Colborne Community Policing Committee is reminding everyone to be safe.
On Saturday, May 26 the 18th annual safety awareness day and bike rodeo will be held at the Port Colborne Fire Hall. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature interactive fire displays, exhibits and displays, a bike rodeo and complimentary hotdogs.
“The point being to make kids more aware of safety concerns,” said committee chairperson and councillor Angie Desmarais, noting it’s a day of learning and fun, as emergency response teams and police SWAT units will be on hand.
The bike rodeo will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and is open to all Port Colborne elementary school students. Kids are asked to bring their bikes and helmets to the event so experts can look over them and ensure they’re safe.
The event is entirely free and upon arrival kids are encouraged to register and be eligible for prizes, which include bicycles purchased by the Port Colborne police and fire departments.
