Joining the Library
Library cards are available free of charge to any resident or property owner of the City of Port Colborne. Two pieces of valid identification are required, one of which must contain the applicant's name and current address.
Memberships are also free for non-residents who reside in the Southern Ontario Library Service Escarpment Service Area and who present two pieces of valid identification at time of registration. Four-month temporary memberships (at a cost of $10.00) are available to non-residents whose permanent address is outside the Escarpment area.
Parents/legal guardians must be present at time of registration of a child (under 16 years of age) and are responsible for all items borrowed on the child's card.
Please notify the library of any change in address or telephone number. Lost or stolen cards must be reported to the library immediately. A $2.00 charge for replacement cards applies.

Wednesday, Friday, Saturday: 9 am - 5 pm
Saturdays (June 1st to Sept. 30th): 9 am - 1 pm

Employment Opportunities at the Library
Borrowing, Returning and Renewing Materials
Borrowing Materials - Library cards must be presented each time you borrow materials. The number of items borrowed on a specific subject may be restricted at the discretion of the library.
Returning Materials - Books may be returned to any library in the Niagara Peninsula. Audio-Visual equipment, videos, and interlibrary loans must be returned to the lending Library. A night-drop is located at the Elgin St. side of the Library and is open 24 hours each day for your convenience.
Renewing Materials - Materials may be renewed, either in person or by phone, unless there has been a hold placed on it or other restrictions apply.

Library Services
Access - The library is fully accessible with one designated parking space, wheelchair ramps on Elgin St. and King St., washroom facilities, and an elevator.
Art and Cultural Exhibits in the Atrium - Displaying the works of local artists and artisans.
Audio-Visual - Loans of DVDs, videos, talking books, & music CDs.
Books - Loan of regular and large print books.
Computer Access - Free access to the Internet including wireless, e-mail, electronic databases, reference titles, children's titles, periodicals, and complete Microsoft Office Suite from public terminals.
Films for Seniors - Held each month, October to May. Free admission & free refreshments. Call the library at 905-834-6512 for program details.
Interlibrary Loans - Requests filled from national and international sources.
Knowledge Ontario Databases- Your Port Colborne Public Library card gives you access to Knowledge Ontario's online resources from home. Enter your 14-digit library card barcode number (no spaces) to access these valuable resources.
Magazines and Newspapers - Local, national, and international newspapers and magazines - access to full text magazines in electronic format.
Microfilm Reader - Providing access to archival information on microfilm - local newspapers from 1850 to present.
Reader's Advisory - Library staff will make suggestions to satisfy your fiction reading needs.
Reference - Answers to simple and complex inquiries.
Reserves - Reservation service for new and popular titles.
School Visits - Providing instruction in the use of the library to area schools. Classes scheduled October to May.
Services With Charges - Photocopies, computer print-outs, & programming.
Shut-In Service - Delivery of library materials by The Friends of the Library to patrons unable to visit the library due to short-term illness, physical disability, or age.
Summer Reading Club - July & August. Call the library at 905-834-6512 for details.

Wireless Internet Now Available at the Library! All you need to enjoy free wireless Internet access at the Port Colborne Public Library is your library card and your laptop.
