Tall Ship Cruise-Empire Sandy
Kicking off Canal Days, the Empire Sandy, true tall ship, cruises through the historic locks of the Welland Canal, allowing passengers to enjoy the sight of the engineering marvels and sails majestically into Port Colborne.
Throughout the four day festival, passengers can take in the breath taking views of Lake Erie as you enjoy a cruise on the lake.
The Empire Sandy is a 200 foot topsail Schooner, and is the largest in Canada. Built in 1943, she sails with 11,000 square feet of sail and has double cannons that are fired at special times. Different cruises options are available throughout the weekend that include morning and afternoon pleasure cruises out on Lake Erie, an evening sunset cruise and dinner cruises.
The Sunday evening dinner cruise is a favorite, as you are treated to the best seats in the house for the annual Canal Days fireworks celebration!
On Tuesday morning, after the festival has closed, board the Empire Sandy once more as she cruises the locks of the Welland Canal to Port Dalhousie.
Although the Empire Sandy can accommodate wheelchairs on deck; there is no wheelchair access to restrooms. Children's car seats and strollers are permitted as well as working service dogs.
Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival offers shuttles between Port Colborne and Port Dalhousie for canal cruise ticket holders; please advise the Box Office when you call to order your tickets to ensure your spot is reserved.
*Port Dalhousie boarding will now take place behind the Port Dalhousie Legion located at 57 Lakeport Road. Please do not park in the Legion's parking lot; there is a municipal lot located in front of the Port Mansion.*
