“Where Business and Lifestyle are a Perfect Match”
Port Colborne is a dynamic city of 18,500 people on the shores of Lake Erie. A part of the Niagara region, our community offers the best of small and large city infrastructure and activities. Situated on Niagara’s South Coast at the gateway to the Welland Canal, it shares its boundaries with the Township of Wainfleet to the west, the Town of Fort Erie to the east, and the City of Welland and City of Niagara Falls to the north.
Port Colborne has an educated and highly specialized labour force of over 9,000 individuals in. This is part of regional labour force of over 200,000 people. Port Colborne's labour force is mostly occupied in the following three sectors: manufacturing, retail trade and health-care and social services.
The urban area of Port Colborne is located at the southern end of the municipality, centred on the Welland Canal, and consists of a variety of residential neighbourhoods, a historic downtownarea, as well as various commercial and industrial areas. The rural area consists of active agricultural lands, three hamlet areas, aggregate resource areas, a large resort development and several estate residential developments.
The Welland Canal has provided an impetus for industrial development along the waterfront. A number of major industries are located on or close to the waterfront, which is primarily occupied by residential development. There are also several public beaches and a public marina.
Port Colborne has a number of opportunities in its future, including industrial expansion, downtown revitalization and residential development. Waterfront revitalization and commercial development are also strong prospects for the community. To facilitate investments, the City has a full-time economic development officer, and City Hall has an “open for business” mentality with a suite of incentive programs.
