The City of Port Colborne, on behalf of Niagara’s South Coast Tourism Association (NSCTA), is looking for a Tourism Specialist to join our team as a student this summer. The position is responsible for assisting with implementation of the City’s tourism strategy and promoting the Niagara’s South Coast destination to consumers in the leisure travel market. Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing new travel itineraries by managing an interactive tourism directory and mapping platform;
  • Coordinating the content management and ongoing maintenance of the NSCTA website;
  • Enhancing visitor engagement to the NSCTA’s social media channels by developing visual and written content, posting this content according to a schedule, and monitoring these channels for questions or inquiries;
  • Organizing photo and video shoots with professional photographers and videographers;
  • Researching best practices in destination marketing or tourism management;  
  • Liaising with stakeholders and supporting their needs by gathering and submitting up-to-date information;
  • Contributing to special promotional projects, when they arise, by helping with preparation and execution; 
  • Providing customer service to visitors and fulfilling their requests for information.

The ideal candidate will: 

  • Be enrolled at a post-secondary institution, preferably in the field of tourism, business, marketing, media and communications, or social sciences.
  • Have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Have an understanding of digital technologies and web and social media platforms.
  • Have experience operating a camera, and familiarity with photo/video editing and graphic design software (e.g., Canva and Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Have the ability to think creatively, write interesting content, create visual stories, and bring ideas to life.
  • Have the ability to work independently, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with staff across the organization, industry stakeholders, and visitors to Niagara’s South Coast.

This is a temporary position funded through Canada Summer Jobs, as such all requirements must be met to be eligible for this program.

To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment 
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

This is a seasonal summer position with an expected start date of June 3, 2024 working through to August 30, 2024, at City Hall for 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday) with a rate of $18.00 per hour.
